Overview
The Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI) in partnership with the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research and the University Health Network will host a public dialogue on
Monday, October 18th, 2010 at the MaRS Centre Auditorium in downtown Toronto. The title of the dialogue is "Personalized Medicine" and the theme for the Ontario discussion is "How will Personalized Medicine Change the Health Care System?"
The dialogue is the third in a series of Pan-Canadian dialogues the TFRI is holding this year to raise public awareness of and engagement in current regional issues in cancer care and research. The first dialogue was held on April 12th in St John's, Newfoundland with participation from researchers, clinicians, survivors and stakeholders from the Atlantic provinces. The second dialogue was held on May 12 in Vancouver, British Columbia with participation from researchers, clinicians, and stakeholders from British Columbia.
The focus of the Ontario dialogue will be on what personalized medicine is, how it will affect the health system and what changes will be required to ensure we are ready for it. Our goals for this dialogue include: achieving a higher level of societal awareness about personalized medicine; initiating preparedness for change in health system practice, creating receptivity within and among constituencies to assume their role with this impending change (e.g. health policy, health services and systems, health professionals, patients and public) and recognition of personal and corporate roles in health system change.
The dialogue will consist of key health care professionals and cancer researchers from within our community to lead discussion topics. We will also engage cancer patients and survivors, the general public and regional stakeholders in the evening's conversation.
How to participate
Participation in the Dialogue session is
free and open to the public; however, due to space limitations
all participants are required to reserve a seat using our online registration form. Individuals wishing to reserve more than one seat must fill out a complete registration form for
