CIHR and the Terry Fox Foundation launch Terry Fox New Frontiers Program Project Grants Competition
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Terry Fox Foundation are pleased to announce the launch of their first Terry Fox New Frontiers Program Project Grants competition.
The Terry Fox New Frontiers Program supports teams of at least three Canadian cancer researchers for up to 5 years. The teams must carry out at least 3 interrelated, complementary, and synergistic cancer research projects. The goal is to support:
- New frontiers in cancer research (i.e., breakthrough and transformative biomedical, clinical and translational research providing information which may form the basis for innovative cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment).
- Expert teams of talented and experienced cancer researchers.
- High-quality research that addresses an important cancer problem or issue which is best approached through a collaborative effort.
- High-risk projects of potentially large impact, where the environment maximizes the chances of success.
- The production of new knowledge and the translation of research findings into improvements in the health of Canadians and the Canadian cancer care system.
The Terry Fox New Frontiers Program is wholly funded by the Terry Fox Foundation. CIHR is responsible for administering the competition and the grants awarded. This program was previously administered by the National Cancer Institute Canada (NCIC), which ceased to exist as of February 1, 2009 as the result of its merger with the Canadian Cancer Society.
CIHR and the Terry Fox Foundation are committed to maintaining the standard of excellence established by NCIC for the research funded through the Terry Fox New Frontiers Program.
