| Abstract: |
Our colorectal cancer network is an integral part of the Quebec -Clinical Research Organization in Cancer (Q-CROC) which is developing a provincial-wide network of collaborators which includes oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, clinician-scientists and basic researchers. Q-CROC has the objectives of improving and developing translational and clinical research.
Q-CROC has worked actively on the development of a translational research project focusing on identifying and validating biomarkers of therapeutic resistance in metastatic colorectal patients. Our colorectal cancer network of more than 35 collaborators includes clinicians and researchers from Montreal, Sherbrooke, Quebec City and Victoria (British Columbia). This research project has been recently submitted to two major funding agencies. A pilot project to collect well defined biospecimens is expected to begin in early 2009. In order to extend and diversify our samples and network, we are also collaborating with international leaders on high dose rectal brachytherapy who are based in Quebec and we are working on developing a translational research project to identify biomarkers of resistance to this treatment. Q-CROC is organizing the 1st Quebec Conference on Therapeutic Resistance in Cancer to be held on March 27-28, 2009 in Montreal. The faculty has prepared a comprehensive agenda, and thus the conference is not solely focused on colorectal cancer, but the colorectal cancer network has played an active role on the scientific committee. This event is supported by educational grants from AztraZeneca Canada Inc., the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Terry Fox Foundation, the "axe de recherche sur le cancer du fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec" and the Terry Fox Research Institute. |
