TFRI announces communications leadership appointments

The Terry Fox Research Institute is pleased to announce the appointments of Peter Mothe as Director of Communications and Erin Jackson into the new position of Communications Manager.

These roles support TFRI’s efforts to communicate the impact of Terry Fox-funded research with Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

"Peter and Erin have demonstrated exceptional professionalism, creativity and dedication to our mission and to Terry’s legacy," said Dr. Jim Woodgett, TFRI President and Scientific Director. "They have helped elevate the profile of our researchers and programs while consistently communicating the real-world impact of the discoveries made possible through Terry Fox funding. We are excited to see them lead our communications efforts into the future."

Mothe, based in Riverview, NB, has been a member of the TFRI communications team for eight years, playing a key role in communicating the growth of the organization and the achievements of TFRI-funded researchers and programs, including the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network. As Director of Communications, he will lead the Institute's communications team and work closely with stakeholders across TFRI’s extended community—including patients, researchers, institutional partners, and key funding partners such as the Terry Fox Foundation and the Government of Canada—to showcase how Terry Fox-funded research is improving our understanding of cancer and impacting how it is prevented, detected, diagnosed, and treated.

Jackson, based in Vancouver, BC, has been promoted to Communications Manager after making significant contributions to TFRI's communications activities over the last three years and supporting the organization's growing portfolio of initiatives. In her new role, she will help oversee day-to-day communications operations, support strategic initiatives, and expand engagement with TFRI's diverse audiences.

These appointments follow the departure of Kelly Curwin, who left the organization earlier this year after 17 years of dedicated service. During her tenure, Curwin played an instrumental role in supporting the organization's growth and evolution and built TFRI's communications portfolio based on the values of excellence, innovation, collaboration, and integrity. Her contributions have left a lasting impact on TFRI and the broader Terry Fox community.

"Kelly's leadership and personification of Terry’s values helped shape how TFRI communicates its mission and impact," said Dr. Woodgett. "We are deeply grateful for her many contributions over the past 17 years and wish her every success in the future."

As TFRI continues to advance world-leading cancer research and precision oncology initiatives across Canada, the communications team will remain focused on highlighting the people, discoveries, and collaborations that are transforming cancer outcomes and carrying forward Terry Fox's vision of a world without cancer.
